(NEWSER) - A 17-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to baking her former roommate's cat to death in a 500° oven and will serve a year in jail, reports the New York Daily News. The girl and a younger accomplice trashed the woman's Bronx apartment, stole DVDs and food, and fled, leaving the cat to die. (AP) - A case of feline fitness gone wrong: Colorado police have ticketed a man who is accused of tying his cat to a rock after it refused to go jogging. Sgt. Fred Palmer says 19-year-old Seth Franco brought his cat on a leash to a path at a Lafayette park on Wednesday, but the cat was unable to keep up. Rather than call it quits and head home, a witness told police that Franco secured the cat's leash to a rock while he finished his run—where birds reportedly began to attack it. More»

Man arrested after neighbors report screeching, smelling 'awful meat'

(NEWSER) - Disgusted cops in Bakersfield say they've arrested a man on suspicion of cooking and eating cats. Jason Louis Wilmer was charged with animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food after neighbors heard cats screeching at his house and called police, AP reports. "I heard a cat cry. It was a weird cry, real loud," a neighbor told KBAK-TV . He said he went outside to peer into Wilmert's backyard, where he saw "a little burner going" and smelled "awful meat." A search of the home turned up evidence that indicated Wilmert "had the intent to use a cat for food," investigators say. "I've never seen anything like this," said a sheriff's spokesman. More»

(NEWSER) - An Aussie woman has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for slicing the head off a mouse with a steak knife and posting a video of its 40-second death on Facebook. The 23-year-old woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty. A second enemy of animals faced charges the same day of torturing and blowing up five possums. He's being held behind bars pending his sentencing later this month, AP reports. More»
