(NEWSER) - John Demjanjuk is physically able to stand trial for his alleged role as an accessory to murder in a Nazi death camp, German officials ruled today. (NEWSER) - In a ritual that doesn't sit well with many, Mormons last month baptized the deceased parents of Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal. Now they're sorry. Asher and Rosa Rapp Wiesenthal were baptized in proxy ceremonies by church members in Arizona and Utah, reports the BBC . "We are outraged that such insensitive actions continue in the Mormon temples," said a furious spokesman for the Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center. Mormons recognize baptism after death, and believe a soul can then accept or reject the baptismal rites. The church agreed in 1995 to stop the practice of baptizing Holocaust victims after it was discovered that the names of hundreds of thousands of the dead had been entered into Mormon records. More»

(NEWSER) - Mietek Pemper, the Jewish prisoner who created "Schindler's List"—a list of concentration camp workers "essential" to the Nazi war effort, which saved hundreds from extermination—has died at age 91, reports the New York Times . Pemper was secretary for the commandant of the Plaszow concentration camp, a brutal Nazi who personally executed hundreds; believing the position to be a death sentence, Pemper started plotting against him. Germany Knew Where Eichmann Was for Years

(NEWSER) - Israeli agents nabbed Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires in 1960—and a newly released document suggests that the infamous Nazi enjoyed as much as eight extra years of freedom. A German newspaper got its hands on a secret service document that shows that the country's foreign intelligence service, BND, knew exactly where Eichmann was in 1952. The typewritten card notes that Eichmann was in Argentina, and going by the name Clemens; der Spiegel clarifies that he was living under the name Ricardo Klement. More»

ADL Rips Beck for 'Horrific' Assault on George Soros

Jewish liberal helped send Jews to camps, he said

(NEWSER) - The Anti-Defamation League is blasting Glenn Beck for accusing liberal philanthropist George Soros, who is Jewish, of helping Nazis send Jews to their death. Soros at the age of 14 "used to go around with this anti-Semite and deliver papers to the Jews and confiscate their property and then ship them off," said Beck this week. "Here’s a Jewish boy helping send the Jews to the death camps." He also called Soros "an atheist who doesn't embrace his Jewish identity." Beck referred to himself as "more supportive of Israel and the Jews than George Soros is.” Soros has discussed once accompanying a Hungarian official posing as his godfather as the man inventoried a house abandoned by fleeing Jews.
