In an interview with Bloomberg TV's Al Hunt , Priebus rejected charges that Republicans have a woman problem. “If the Democrats said we had a war on caterpillars and every mainstream media outlet talked about the fact that Republicans have a war on caterpillars, then we’d have problems with caterpillars,” he said. “It’s a fiction.” More»

Attack focuses on Bill Maher comments, White House 'boys' club'

(NEWSER) - Democrats often slam the GOP's "war on women," but now it's the Republicans who are hitting back at "Obama's war on women" in a new attack ad, Mediaite reports. The Republican National Committee ad focuses on controversial remarks Bill Maher—who is also a bigtime Obama donor—has made about women, and prominently features CNN's Erin Burnett interrogating an uncomfortable-looking David Axelrod over the remarks. It then moves on to Ron Suskind's Confidence Men, the book that painted a picture of the White House as a "hostile workplace" for women. More»

(NEWSER) - There may be method to the Republican Party's apparent madness, writes Steve Kornacki in Salon . Mouthy scene-stealer Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann seems to be elbowing Sarah Palin out of the limelight, plopping the former Alaska governor at an all-time popularity low, much to the relief of the GOP establishment, says Kornacki. But that still leaves traditionalist Republicans with the problem of Bachmann. A Wave of Democratic State Lawmakers Defecting to GOP

At least 13 have jumped ship so far, and there could be more

(NEWSER) - Democratic losses didn’t stop on Election Day: Since Nov. 2, at least 13 state lawmakers have switched over to the Republican party, the AP reports. Many of the defections took place in the South, where dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party is high. In some states, like Alabama and Louisiana, the party switches gave control of the House to Republicans. Georgia Rep. Alan Powell, who switched to the GOP this month, said that the GOP sweep of his state brought “an effective end, at least for the foreseeable future, to the two-party system in state government.” More»
