(NEWSER) - It'll be a busy week for Aung San Suu Kyi: On June 17, she's headed to Oslo to belatedly pick up the Nobel Peace Prize she was awarded in 1991. The next day, she heads to Dublin to receive Amnesty International's top honor, presented by Bono at a tribute concert; the event will also feature Vanessa Redgrave, Riverdance, and Bob Geldof, the AP reports. Myanmar's democracy icon fell ill on grueling campaign

(AP) - Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi has fallen ill while campaigning for Myanmar's upcoming by-elections and has suspended her extensive tour of the country a week ahead of the polls, her party said today. A National League for Democracy spokesman said that Suu Kyi's personal physician advised taking the break after she fell ill with vomiting while campaigning in the Mergui archipelago in southernmost Myanmar. The doctor blamed her ill health on exhaustion and hot weather. Party members traveling with the 66-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate said she had been put on an intravenous drip. More»

(AP) - Lawyers for detained Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi today appealed her recent conviction that extended her years of house arrest, a day after the ruling junta announced it was releasing thousands of prisoners. (NEWSER) - Burma's ruling junta will take the unusual step of allowing diplomats to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader currently on trial, reports CNN. Officials from Russia, Singapore, and Thailand are expected to meet Suu Kyi later today. On the third day of the trial, the government allowed Burmese reporters into the courtroom for the first time, after days of international condemnation of the legal action. More»
