State's proposed law is one of the nation's toughest

(AP) - The federal government is suing South Carolina to put a stop to the state's tough new immigration law. US Attorney Bill Nettles said today the government wants a judge to stop enforcement of the legislation. Lawsuit: University should have done more to protect murder victim

(NEWSER) - Yale University could have, and should have, done more to protect Annie Le and other women on campus, Le’s family claims in a lawsuit filed yesterday. The family is suing for wrongful death over the murder of Le, who was killed by a co-worker at a campus lab in 2009. Yale has “long taken inadequate steps to ensure the safety and security of women on its campus,” the family’s attorneys said in a statement, according to the Hartford Courant . Mohammed Jawad is considered one of the youngest prisoners held at the Cuban base—he claims he was 12 at the time he was captured, though the Justice Department maintains he was 17. “I was an innocent child when they put me in prison,” says Jawad, who claims he was tortured there.
