Official explanation is a fake, but decision still isn't going over well

(NEWSER) - Here's the naked truth: The Chinese will not get the full Titanic effect. Kate Winslet's bare breasts in the 3D version of the movie are being censored in China. "Considering the vivid 3D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch, and thus interrupt other people's viewing," explained a widely cited statement from China's State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television. Delicious as that explanation might be, Gawker notes that the quote is a fake, and probably originated here . Nevertheless, the decision to dull the Winslet flash isn't popular, notes MSNBC . (AP) - Iran's supreme leader urged Iranians to vote in large numbers as the country holds parliamentary elections today, saying a high turnout would send a strong message to the enemies of the nation amid the nuclear standoff with the West. The balloting for the 290-member parliament is the first major voting since the disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 2009 and the mass protests and crackdowns that followed. Syrian Opposition Forms Military Bureau

Rebels say they have so far kept the government out of Homs

(NEWSER) - Syria's main political opposition group today announced that it was forming a "military bureau" to unify and coordinate the Free Syrian army and other armed opposition groups opposing Bashar al-Assad. Speaking in Paris, the Syrian National Council's leader said they had originally hoped for a nonviolent revolt, but now felt the need to avoid "chaos" and take charge of the flow of weapons into the country, the BBC reports. The move came as the UN Council on Human Rights passed a resolution condemning Syria's "widespread and systemic violations" against civilians. More»
