(NEWSER) - The US-brokered deal to end the political standoff in Honduras has collapsed, says ousted president Manuel Zelaya, although the interim president installed after Zelaya's ouster doesn't agree even on that. "The accord is dead," Zelaya said from the Brazilian Embassy, where he has been holed up since slipping back into the country last month. "There is no sense in deceiving Hondurans." Deal lets Manuel Zelaya serve remaining 3 months

(AP) - Honduras' 4-month political standoff appears to be over. After intense lobbying from US diplomats, the coup-installed interim president, Roberto Micheletti, has agreed to allow ousted President Manuel Zelaya to return to office to serve his remaining 3 months. Congress, which backed the June coup that sent Zelaya packing, is expected to approve the deal. Both sides also have agreed to honor the results of presidential elections next month. More»
