(NEWSER) - A jury convicted ex-Rutgers student Dharun Ravi of hate crimes and other offenses today for using a webcam to record and distribute video that outed his roommate, Tyler Clementi, as gay. After three days of deliberations, the jury found Ravi guilty of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy for making the recording, and of tampering with evidence and witnesses for trying to delete Twitter and text messages in which he'd urged others to watch it, the New York Times reports. Allen Stanford, whose financial empire once spanned the Americas, was convicted today on all but one of the 14 counts he faced for allegedly bilking investors out of more than $7 billion in a massive Ponzi scheme he operated for 20 years. Her recorded evidence is being played “in small portions,” a court official said, because it is reportedly excruciating to watch. (NEWSER) - A 25-year-old Chicago stockbroker was sentenced yesterday to 35 years in prison for soliciting sex from minors on Facebook, the Tribune reports. Facebook said this appears to be the first case of a sexual predator using the social networking site. (NEWSER) - OJ Simpson's lawyers have given seven reasons why he should get a new trial in their motion seeking an appeal, reports the Las Vegas Sun. They cite judicial errors and insufficient evidence in Simpson's conviction for armed robbery and kidnapping, and argue that his rights may have been violated when African-Americans were excluded from the pool of jurors.
