Myron Chisem shot in head through window of Calif. home

(NEWSER) - The 14-year-old son of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent has been busted in the killing of his dad in their southern California home. Myron Chisem, 42, was shot in the head with a gun fired from the backyard through the window of his family room in Carson. Chisem's son called 911 and was arrested for the killing hours later, reports the Los Angles Times . Chisem's service revolver was used in the killing, reports MSNBC. The motive was unclear, said officials. Those who knew the family said the teen and the father of three seemed to have a great relationship. Chisem "was very proud of his son. 44% of Teens Could Get a Gun

Survey also shows 33% know someone who has been shot

(NEWSER) - Teenagers today are perilously familiar with guns. In a new survey from Teenage Research Unlimited, 44% said they could get a handgun if they wanted to, WBEZ reports. About a third of respondents also said that they personally knew someone who'd been shot, and 37% say they actively fear being shot themselves. About half of the 600 kids surveyed think the US would be safer without any handguns, compared to about 25% who said adults should be able to carry loaded guns in public. More»

Kid Charged in Grisly Crash That Killed 9 Immigrants

15-year-old said he drove the van because his family had been threatened

(AP) - A 15-year-old South Texas boy has been charged with nine counts of murder after a van he was driving crashed, killing nine of the suspected illegal immigrants packed inside. The boy appeared at a probable cause hearing today, where he was also charged with 17 counts of smuggling a person, among other things. Border Patrol agents had stopped the van last Tuesday, when some of the passengers sprinted away. Agents pursued them on foot, catching one. As the foot chase unfolded, the van sped off. More»

'She's a victim, not a criminal,' says her lawyer

(NEWSER) - A 17-year-old suspected rape victim is being held in a California juvenile detention facility to ensure that she'll show up to testify against her attacker. She failed to turn up at a preliminary hearing for her suspected assailant, forcing prosecutors to refile the case. “The last thing we ever want to do is put a victim or a witness in custody, but when you have serious crimes of violence and multiple offenses, you have to balance the protection of the community,” Sacramento County assistant district attorney tells ABC News.
