(NEWSER) - George Sodini was apparently driven to murder by utter loneliness. The man suspected of killing three women in a suburban Pittsburgh gym appears to have left behind an online diary detailing his plans, CNN reports. “Why do this?? To young girls? Two others are wounded in standoff; gunman surrenders

(NEWSER) - At least three police officers in Pittsburgh were shot to death this morning while responding to a domestic call, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. At least one other was wounded. The gunman, in his early 20s, held police at bay for more than 3 hours before surrendering. He was reportedly shot in the chest and leg. (AP) - Authorities say the Alabama gunman who killed 10 people and himself in a rampage yesterday had once trained as a police officer. Michael McLendon, 28, briefly went through officer training in 2003, but didn't complete the requirements to join the force.
