Ad Risks Prez Wrath by Targeting Daughters

(NEWSER) - A doctors' group wants to know why all schoolkids can't have what the Obama girls are having in their swank private school lunches, reports the Washington Post, and the White House wants the group to mind its own Ps and Qs. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine posted posters in DC's subway, and got a friendly but forceful message from the White House counsel’s office for its trouble. “They called and said: Please take those down, you can't mention the kids,” the group’s president says. (NEWSER) - President Obama's elder daughter Malia is now 13, old enough to have a Facebook account, but the first couple has no intention of lifting their ban on their daughters using the site . And the girls don't mind, the president tells People , characterizing their view as, "Why would we want to have a whole bunch of people who we don't know knowing our business? (NEWSER) - In a recent iVillage interview, Michelle Obama let this little tidbit slip: Unlike, apparently, most of America , the president is not a huge fan of the Kardashians. Asked if any TV shows are off limits for the first daughters, Michelle replied, "Barack really thinks some of the Kardashians—when they watch that stuff—he doesn't like that as much. But I sort of feel like if we're talking about it, and I'm more concerned with how they take it in—what did you learn when you watched that? And if they're learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy, then I'm like, OK." More»

President stresses importance of being a dad in radio address

(NEWSER) - Is there a responsibility as demanding or important as being commander-in-chief of the United States? President Obama thinks so, and it's called being a dad. On his pre-Father's Day radio address today, the president reflected on his own father's absence and discussed some of the ways he's trying to be a better parent for daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, 10, the Associated Press reports. Among them: Taking a "second job" as assistant coach on Sasha's basketball team. It was mostly just on Sundays for practice, and "a couple of times I'd help coach the games," he says. More»
