SC first lady dishes on confessional press conference: 'way too long'

(NEWSER) - Jenny Sanford continues to offer tantalizing glimpses into her relationship with South Carolina governor and soon-to-be ex-husband Mark Sanford and the fallout of his affair. Sanford sat down with Good Morning America and provided NPR with an excerpt of her new book, Staying True. Some quips and revelations:

• The confessional press conference: Sanford continues to make short work of questions about why she didn't appear with her husband when he announced his affair. "I don't know what I would have stood by him about," she tells NPR.

She says attempts at reconciliation were 'unsuccessful'

(NEWSER) - Jenny Sanford is divorcing her philandering husband. “I know it will soon become known so I choose to release this brief notice,” South Carolina's first lady says in a statement obtained by the State . “I am now filing for divorce. SC House panel votes to censure him instead

(NEWSER) - It looks like Mark Sanford will be able to finish out his term as South Carolina governor after all. A state House panel voted against impeachment and instead decided to censure him. The lone dissenter on the seven-member panel says he will still try to get the full Judiciary Committee to impeach, but the effort now appears settled, reports the State . South Carolina's first lady gives an interview to Barbara Walters

(NEWSER) - Jenny Sanford tells Barbara Walters that her philandering husband didn't ask her to play the faithful wife at his mea culpa press conference, and she wouldn't have considered it anyway. "If he had asked me, I would have said no," said South Carolina's first lady. "Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem. They reflect poorly on him." More»
