(NEWSER) - Donald Trump is used to picking fights with the media, would-be apprentices, and the president of the United States, but now he's throwing daggers at quite a different target: David Milne, a Scottish neighbor of Trump's planned "best golf course in the world," who refuses to sell to the Donald. Trump's latest volley was to build a fence around Milne's house without permission, reports the Daily Record —then bill him $4,600 for half of it. "There is no way I'm going to pay it," says Milne. "As far as I'm concerned it's just another attempt to intimidate and bully me." More»

(NEWSER) - The Treasury has decided to go through with a plan to sell 300 million AIG shares, despite recent blows to the nationalized insurer’s market price, sources tell the Wall Street Journal . Given the sagging demand, the government expects to make around $9 billion in the small offering, which is on the low end of the $7 billion to $25 billion it had hoped for. More»

AIG Reaches Deal to Repay Government

US will eventually no longer own the company

(AP) - AIG said today it's reached a deal to repay billions of dollars it received during the credit crisis. The plan could return a profit to taxpayers who footed the bill for AIG's near collapse in September 2008 and will eventually remove the government as majority owner. AIG became a lightning rod for criticism over bailouts when it received a package worth as much as $180 billion from the government, which received an 80% stake in the company in return. More»

AIG Exit Plan Speeds Up Taxpayer Payback

Sale of US shares could start next year

(NEWSER) - The Treasury and AIG are negotiating a plan that will allow the government to sell off its massive stake in the insurance company and repay taxpayers in full—over several years. Under the plan, the US would convert its $49 billion in preferred shares into common shares, likely increasing the government’s ownership stake to more than 90%, from its current 79.8%, the Wall Street Journal reports. Then the government will slowly sell off its stock. An independent AIG would be seen as a victory for both the company and the government, which has seen many banks repay their bailout debts earlier than expected. More»
