(NEWSER) - The bloggers were right—Apple's latest high-tech plaything is a touch-screen, WiFi-enabled iPod. Steve Jobs unveiled the new toy in San Francisco today, along with an iPod Nano that plays video (and Sudoku!) and a feature for making ringtones out of songs on iTunes. (NEWSER) - Steve Jobs took a break from his medical leave to show off some major new Apple software today, including its hotly anticipated new cloud computing service. The service, predictably dubbed “iCloud,” lets users keep all manner of data online, including books, apps, and music, syncing it all across multiple devices instantly. “We are going to demote the PC to just be a device,” Jobs said, according to the New York Times . “We are going to move… the center of your digital life into the cloud.” More»

Apple boss pens open letter to address controversy

(NEWSER) - You've got it all wrong; Apple isn't the closed system picking on the open Adobe's Flash; Flash is the closed system, Steve Jobs argues, in an open letter explaining why Apple has kicked Flash off the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. He complains that Flash is “100% proprietary,” rather than an open platform like the HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, or Apple's own WebKit, and that it's not well suited to mobile devices. More»

(NEWSER) - Apple CEO Steve Jobs won’t deliver the keynote speech at an event many thought would mark his return from a health-related leave of absence, the Telegraph reports. An Apple VP will speak in Jobs’ usual spot at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. Apple's wares illegal in Gates household

(NEWSER) - Apple products are banned in the Gates home, the New York Post reports—but Melinda “wouldn’t mind” picking up an iPhone, she told Vogue. There isn’t much “on the banned list in our household. But iPods and iPhones are two things we don't get for our kids,” she said.
