(NEWSER) - Bank repossessions skyrocketed 129% over the 12-month period ending in March, and foreclosure filings rose 57% over the previous year, RealtyTrac announced today. But don't be too quick to don the rose-colored glasses: The number of loans in foreclosure remains stubbornly high at 4.4%—down only a hair from last year's 4.5%, in part because some states require courts to oversee foreclosures, drawing out the process. New 'mortgage to lease' program kicks off in test markets

(NEWSER) - Falling behind on your Bank of America mortgage? Well, what would you say if the bank offered to take your house, but let you rent it for a while? That's the idea behind a new "Mortgage to Lease" pilot program that BofA is rolling out in select markets in Arizona, Nevada, and New York. Participants will hand the title of their home over to the bank, which will forgive their outstanding debt and lease it to them for up to three years at or below market rates, the AP explains. More»

Texan's 'adverse possession' argument rejected

(NEWSER) - The Texas man who claimed the law of "adverse possession" allowed him to get an abandoned $340,000 home by paying $16 to file a claim is now looking for somewhere else to live. A judge decided that the current lien holder, Bank of America, had the right to force Kenneth Robinson out, ABC News reports. Robinson, who lived in the foreclosed home for eight months, says he has decided to leave the home in an upscale Dallas suburb without a fight. More»
