The spunky mayor took to repeating some of Hurricane Irene's danger and evacuation warnings in Spanish at his press conferences, but they came out sounding like "El stormo grande is mucho dangeroso, stay awayo para los next few days," and "no looto el bodego" to the offended ears of New Yorker Rachel Figueroa-Levin, 25, who has started a popular Twitter account whose fake missives mock " El Bloombito ." 20 Years Later, Sex Ed Back in NYC Schools

Starting this fall, sex ed will be mandatory, beginning as early as 6th grade

(NEWSER) - Mandatory sex education has been on hiatus for almost 20 years in New York City, but it's officially back. The move comes as part of a much larger effort, announced last week by the Bloomberg administration, to better the lives of black and Latino teens, the New York Times reports. Statistics show that underage pregnancies are on the rise, particularly among those groups. Now, public school students will be required to take two semesters of sex ed, one in 6th or 7th grade, and another in 9th or 10th. More»

Mayor will preside over ceremony on first day it's legal

(NEWSER) - Michael Bloomberg isn’t wasting any time celebrating New York’s new marriage law. The day gay marriage becomes legal in the state, the mayor will officiate at the wedding of two city officials, NBC New York reports.
