Lawmakers pledge to overturn law

(NEWSER) - Republicans may not be able to stop health care reform, but they're already thinking about repealing it should they win either house of Congress. The "Repeal It" movement has won pledges from dozens of lawmakers and candidates, reports the Washington Post , including all the Senate hopefuls in Kentucky, Nevada, Kansas, and Missouri. (NEWSER) - Conservative radio hosts are scaring America's seniors with a campaign against an end-of-life counseling proposal in the health care reform bill, the Washington Post reports. Under the proposal doctors would be reimbursed for consulting with elderly patients about what medical interventions they would prefer as the end nears, but opponents portray it as a step towards mandatory euthanasia, even labeling it the "kill Granny" clause. (NEWSER) - John Boehner was still jockeying with the scheduling of economic speeches today, but this time it's his own: The House speaker will give a major address on jobs and the recovery one week after President Obama addresses Congress, reports the Hill . Boehner will speak at the Economic Club of Washington the afternoon of Sept. 15. He has used the same venue for big speeches before, including in May when he laid out his conditions for raising the debt ceiling, notes USA Today . More»
