(NEWSER) - New Yorkers turned out in droves today to cheer the World Series champion Yankees as a ticker-tape parade made its way through the canyons of Lower Manhattan. Manager Joe Girardi received a key to the city at a City Hall ceremony, Series MVP Hideki Matsui thanked the fans over and over—in English—and Jay-Z joined Alex Rodriguez on a float. But last night Hideki Matsui made fans take notice and cheer, capping a World Series performance that compares favorably to Reggie Jackson’s storied 1977 Series—Jackson hit .450 with 1.250 slugging, to Matsui’s .615 and 1.385. (NEWSER) - The average fan might need a loan to snap up one of the thousands of tickets available for tonight’s Game 6 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. The cheapest seats are going for $550 online, the Daily News reports, but the online average is above $1,000. Resale site StubHub assumes the game will be its highest grossing ever—considering that the record is now held by Game 2, the last one played in NYC. More»
