(NEWSER) - The lawyer of the man accused of killing one and wounding five during yesterday's shooting spree in Orlando says his client is "very, very mentally ill." (AP) - Jason Rodriguez, the Orlando engineer taken into custody after a shooting spree that left one former coworker dead and five wounded, told detectives he blamed the firm that fired him for recent trouble he had receiving unemployment benefits. 8 Report Injuries After Lightning Strikes SeaWorld

(NEWSER) - Three guests and two employees were sent to the hospital yesterday after lightning struck at SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove water park in Orlando. Firefighters were called to the park just after 5pm, as a storm that meteorologists had warned would produce “excessive” lightning passed through, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Three other employees were taken to a local medical clinic, but none of the eight total people affected are believed to have been directly hit, and all have now been released from medical care. Dead Megachurch Pastor Found With Suspected Drugs

Police awaiting test results on white powder

(NEWSER) - The Florida megachurch pastor discovered dead in a Times Square hotel room was found with a white powdery substance believed to be narcotics, police sources have told several newspapers. Zachery Tims, founder of Orlando's 8,000-member New Destiny Christian Center, was discovered by hotel workmen lying on his back between the bedroom and living area of his Manhattan room. A glassine envelope of white powder was found in the pocket of the shorts he was wearing, a source told the Wall Street Journal. Police are awaiting autopsy results and tests on the powder. There were no signs of trauma on the body of the 42-year-old pastor, and no indications of a robbery, according to police. More»
