(AP) - Wearing his Army uniform and sitting solemnly in a wheelchair, the psychiatrist accused of gunning down 13 people at Fort Hood in November made his first court appearance today, and his attorneys won a delay in his case. Accused Fort Hood shooter may never regain use of legs

(NEWSER) - Accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan may be paralyzed from the waist down, his lawyer says. The Army major has no feeling in his legs, which doctors say could be permanent. He also has extreme pain in his hands. His lawyer tells CBS that though he was lucid during an interview, he faded toward the end, and his condition is still “extremely serious.” Hasan was shot by police after allegedly taking the lives of 12 fellow soldiers and one civilian last week. President speaks at memorial service at Fort Hood

(AP) - President Obama spoke the names and told the stories today of the 13 people slain in the Fort Hood shooting rampage, honoring their memories even as he denounced the "twisted logic" that led to their deaths. "No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor," Obama told the crowd. "And for what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice—in this world and the next." More»

Some offer prayers for alleged shooter's family

(NEWSER) - Church attendance was up today in the area around Fort Hood, Texas, where at least one congregation heard a somewhat unexpected appeal. "Lord, we pray for Major Hasan‘s family, who find themselves in a position no one wants to be in—to try and explain the unexplainable," said the chaplain leading the service. The nearest town to the base, Killeen, has one house of worship for every 245 residents, according to the Austin American-Statesman , and attendance at many appeared to be up. More»
