Review finds Hasan's shortcomings ignored

(NEWSER) - Up to eight army officers may be disciplined for errors of judgment ahead of the deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage, according to an official familiar with a Pentagon review of the incident. The review found that officers allowed accused shooter Nidal Malik Hasan's career to advance despite his erratic behavior and failure to meet required standards for physical fitness, appearance and work ethic, the official tells the Los Angeles Times. 2007 memo outlines supervisor's 'serious concerns'

(NEWSER) - Nidal Hasan's supervisor at the Walter Reed Medical Center warned that the psychiatrist was unprofessional and lazy in a harshly critical performance evaluation in 2007. Hasan "demonstrates a pattern of poor judgment and a lack of professionalism," the report states, noting that he proselytized to his patients and allowed a homicidal patient to escape from the emergency room. Hasan only treated 30 patients in 38 weeks, the report states, about a tenth of other psychiatrists' workload. More»

Funerals take place across the country

(NEWSER) - Funerals for several of the 13 victims of the Fort Hood shooting took place today across the nation. Friends, family, and community members laid to rest Staff Sgt. Justin DeCrow, Spc. Jason Dean Hunt, Staff Sgt. Amy Krueger, Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, Capt. John Gaffaney, and Pfc. Michael Pearson. "Her smile would light up any room, her energy would envelope all of those around her," said Krueger's parents. More»
