(NEWSER) - Republican groups plan to spend a record $1 billion on the November elections, and could outspend Democrats by a margin of 2-to-1. Politico has the details on the spending plans of super PACs and other outside groups: The Koch brothers plan to spend $400 million; Karl Rove's groups are looking at $300 million; pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future—which already spent almost $50 million in the primaries—is aiming for $100 million in the general election; and an array of smaller groups plan to spend anywhere from $5 million to $30 million each. But GAO official warns Congress about environmental impact

(NEWSER) - Maybe President Bush should have invaded the Rocky Mountain region instead of Iraq: Turns out that a mostly vacant area of land across Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming has about as much recoverable oil as the world's reserves combined, according to a US official. A government agency "estimates that the Green River Formation contains about 3 trillion barrels of oil, and about half of this may be recoverable, depending on available technology and economic conditions,” GAO auditor Anu K. Mittal told Congress this week. More»

(NEWSER) - President Obama's stand in favor of gay marriage is no game-changer for six out of ten US voters, a new Gallup poll says. For those who may change their vote over it, 26% are less likely to vote for Obama, and 13% more likely.
