NYC Targets Subway Gropers

(NEWSER) - A cell phone photo of a groper on a New York City subway snapped by his victim helped nab him two days later, according to police. He harassed a woman again yesterday and she recognized his picture from news reports and called 911, reports the New York Daily News. Turns out he's been arrested 30 times for charges ranging from robbery to sex assault. "I was scared, but I think I did a good job," said the woman who snapped his photo. More»

Suspect shot as he grappled with cop on platform

(NEWSER) - A New York City subway rider accused of groping the buttocks of two teens ended up with a bullet in the lower back after grappling with an off-duty cop. The officer confronted the man at a Harlem station after two young women, a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old, said they had been groped, the New York Daily News reports. (NEWSER) - Michael Bloomberg is hatching a plan to build a subway tunnel under the Hudson River linking Manhattan to Secaucus, NJ. The plan is designed to replace the long-planned tunnel from New Jersey that Chris Christie killed when he came into office, and according to a secret memorandum obtained by the New York Times , it would cost about half as much as that project, because the city is already extending a tunnel near the waterfront. (NEWSER) - Call him the 21st-century Emily Post: Artist Jason Shelowitz is out to teach New York City subway riders that groping, sneezing, preaching, and littering is totally uncool. Shelowitz quizzed passengers on their pet peeves and made the top 10 into pretty humorous posters in the style of the transit authority's own, Gawker reports.
