(NEWSER) - A massive wolf hunt is coming to the Rocky Mountain states now that Congress has quietly passed a budget rider ordering wolves be taken off endangered species lists everywhere but Wyoming. Since wolves were re-introduced to the region in 1994, their numbers have grown to 1,700, angering ranchers and hunters, who blame the wolves for reducing elk populations 20%. Animal no longer under federal protection in northern Rockies

(NEWSER) - Hunters in the northern Rockies will soon take aim at a rare target—the gray wolf. The animal lost its protected species status in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming yesterday, and wildlife agencies in the region are looking to reduce the population by granting hunting licenses for the first time since 1973. (NEWSER) - Donald Trump's sons went on a hunting safari in Africa last year, and thought it would be a good idea to pose in photo after photo with the animals they killed. Said photos surfaced yesterday, and not surprisingly, animal rights groups are outraged, TMZ reports. One picture in particular shows Donald Jr. standing next to a dead elephant, holding up the elephant's severed tail. "Would any intelligent person feel moved to murder a magnificent elephant, then further insult and desecrate by hacking off his or her tail as an additional gesture of dominance?" wonders a rep from In Defense of Animals. Sunstein, who will monitor federal regulations as director of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, has been under attack by conservatives over his positions on animal rights, hunting, and end-of-life care.
