SC first lady dishes on confessional press conference: 'way too long'

(NEWSER) - Jenny Sanford continues to offer tantalizing glimpses into her relationship with South Carolina governor and soon-to-be ex-husband Mark Sanford and the fallout of his affair. Sanford sat down with Good Morning America and provided NPR with an excerpt of her new book, Staying True. Some quips and revelations:

• The confessional press conference: Sanford continues to make short work of questions about why she didn't appear with her husband when he announced his affair. "I don't know what I would have stood by him about," she tells NPR.

Ballantine Books won't disclose fee for May 2010 release

(NEWSER) - Jenny Sanford will write an “inspirational memoir” to be released by Random House next spring, CNN reports. The publisher is mum on how much the estranged wife of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford will get for her trouble. The fairer half of the couple has been fairly tight-lipped since the news of her husband’s affair broke in June. The deal marks a revival of the Sanfords' literary fortunes: the governor had an agreement with Sentinel Publishing that was axed in July. More»

SC governor hopeful Nikki Haley denies blogger's claim

(AP) - A political blogger claimed today that he had an affair several years ago with a married Republican vying to become the state's first female governor. Rep. Nikki Haley vehemently denied the allegation, made in a post on Will Folks' blog that contained no proof. Haley called the claim a "disgraceful smear" planted to derail her campaign, which has gained steam from high-powered endorsements, including Sarah Palin and Jenny Sanford. More»

Jenny Sanford's memoir also paints cheating hubby as cheapskate

(NEWSER) - Before Mark Sanford made “hiking the Appalachian trail” into a household phrase, one person knew his affair scandal would be big news: His 12-year-old son. It’s “worse than Eliot Spitzer,” Bolton told mom Jenny when she broke the news of Mark’s cheating to their boys. In her memoir Staying True, coming out Friday, Jenny also reveals Mark continued “pestering” her for permission to see mistress Maria Belen Chapur, the New York Daily News reports. More»
