(NEWSER) - Apple is holding another one of its big events today, expected to be the unveiling of the iPad 3. Mashable runs down 11 things to watch for when it begins at 1pm ET:

• Tim Cook will be "the main attraction." He may not be as theatrical as Steve Jobs, but he's definitely Apple's biggest gun.
• There will be a lot of buildup. Before answering all your burning questions, Apple will have to build up to the big reveal by hyping its "dazzling" sales and download stats.
• Get ready for Mountain Lion. Apple's new Mac OS won't go on sale until the summer, but its new features will most certainly be previewed.

Company again beats expectations

(AP) - Apple's results trumped expectations for yet another quarter, the results lifted by the sale of 20.3 million iPhones—millions more than analysts expected; iPad sales came in at 9.25 million units, also above expectations. In other product categories, trends were less impressive. Sales of Mac computers were 3.95 million, up 14% from a year ago. That's the lowest quarterly growth rate in two years. And iPod sales were down 20% at 7.5 million, as the media player continues to lose out to iPhone and iPads. More»

Apple also unveils new version of Mac OS

(NEWSER) - Steve Jobs took a break from his medical leave to show off some major new Apple software today, including its hotly anticipated new cloud computing service. The service, predictably dubbed “iCloud,” lets users keep all manner of data online, including books, apps, and music, syncing it all across multiple devices instantly. “We are going to demote the PC to just be a device,” Jobs said, according to the New York Times . “We are going to move… the center of your digital life into the cloud.” More»

Even if iPad sales didn't meet expectations

(AP) - Apple today reported another exceptional quarter, nearly doubling its net income and far exceeding analyst estimates on the strength of the seemingly unstoppable iPhone. However, sales of Apple's big new product, the iPad tablet computer, came in below expectations. The second version of the tablet launched three weeks before the end of the quarter, and manufacturing constraints may have prevented Apple from selling more of them. More»
