(NEWSER) - Lloyd Blankfein’s salary nearly doubled in 2010 to a total of around $19 million—and the Catholic church isn’t happy about it. Four orders of nuns that invest with Goldman Sachs have all signed on to a proposal demanding the bank review its compensation policy, the Guardian reports. The nuns are pushing the board to review and report on whether compensation is “excessive,” and on how it relates to “sizable layoffs and the level of pay of our lowest paid workers.” More»

(NEWSER) - In the public imagination, Goldman Sachs gives the biggest bonuses around, but this year CEO Lloyd Blankfein’s $9.6 million payday doesn’t even crack the top 10 in the financial industry. Instead, the top spot is occupied by decidedly less famous Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf, who pulled in $18.7 million, the New York Times reports, and executives from even lesser-known companies dot the list. Cop, firefighter pension group seeks to halt $22B payout

(NEWSER) - A pension fund investor is taking Goldman Sachs to court over bonuses it says has nothing to do with employee merit. The suit filed by the Security Police and Fire Professionals of America Retirement Fund accuses the company of preparing to "blindly" hand out $22 billion in bonuses, Reuters reports. A Goldman spokesman says the suit, filed in New York's Supreme Court, is "completely without merit." More»

Falling revenues behind expected 40% plunge

(NEWSER) - The latest news from Wall Street is likely to leave most ordinary Americans dry-eyed. Year-end bonuses for bankers and traders are expected to be down sharply this year, plunging up to 40% to their lowest level since the financial crisis, according to a closely watched industry forecast. A bond trader who is also a managing director at a top securities firm would have received a bonus of some $2.9 million last year, but will have to make do with $1.8 million this year, the Wall Street Journal reports.
