Not ex-governor's job to report new buildings, her lawyer says

(AP) – Records show that Sarah Palin hasn't paid any property taxes on cabins built on two backcountry plots partially owned by the former Alaska governor. Though the years since 2008 have seen her wild popularity and seeming omnipresence fade, she's edging back into the 2012 election with a string of successful endorsements. She's made four so far, and two have won their respective primary races; the other two races have yet to be decided. For comparison: Rick Santorum has also been making endorsements, "to no great effect," Politico notes. (NEWSER) - Nebraskans went to the polls today, and while Mitt Romney's victory was a foregone conclusion— CNN called it early—the real race to watch was the Republican Senate primary, won by a Sarah Palin favorite. Little-known state Sen. Deb Fisher, who garnered a flurry of Tea Party endorsements after Palin backed her, edged out establishment favorite, Attorney General Jon Bruning, 41% to 36%. Campaign aims to do the opposite of McCain

(NEWSER) - Team Romney’s rule of thumb: Do the opposite of everything John McCain did in 2008, or so reports Politico in a look at the campaign's strategy. The approach applies broadly, say advisers—focus hugely on the economy, fully engage in fundraising, integrate early with the Republican National Committee—but comes most into play in the search for a VP. The campaign doesn’t want to end up with its own version of Sarah Palin, so it is going to great lengths to avoid anyone who could be seen as unprepared. Axed Agent Joked About 'Checking Out' Sarah Palin

'Check this out—you're fired!' she says

(NEWSER) - One of the two Secret Service supervisors to lose their jobs so far over the Colombia sex scandal joked that he was checking out Sarah Palin as he guarded her during the 2008 campaign, the Washington Post finds. Senior agent David Chaney posted at least two pictures of himself with Palin on Facebook, one with the comment, "I was really checking her out, if you know what I mean." What happened to 'gravitas,' he wants to know

(NEWSER) - Former Today show anchor Bryant Gumbel was "embarrassed" when NBC named Sarah Palin co-host for a day last week. Hosts “used to be judged not just on their popularity, but the extent to which they were capable of interviewing someone or reporting on a situation, or able to have a degree of gravitas," Gumbel grumbled to Newsweek media critic Howard Kurtz. "Now that's secondary to being popular.” Kurtz characterized the choice of the "disastrous VP nominee" as a way to "poke fun at her know-nothing image while sprinkling some celebrity stardust on Matt Lauer and the gang" at Today.
