Just 10% approve of work on Hill, according to latest Gallup poll

(NEWSER) - A Gallup poll released Wednesday finds that Americans' approval of Congress has hit yet another record low: 10%. There aren't many institutions Americans have liked less over the last 50-or-so years, according to Gallup: Only Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and OJ Simpson detective Mark Fuhrman have ever scored lower. ABC News takes a look at some very unpopular things that still manage to rank above Congress:

White House: But we're still closing Gitmo

(NEWSER) - The federal government not only doesn't know where Osama bin Laden is, it also doesn't seem to know where it would put him if he's ever captured. CIA director Leon Panetta told senators yesterday that the terror kingpin would be held in Afghanistan and moved "probably to Guantanamo" if the agency ever gets its hands on him, AP reports. A White House spokesman, however, stresses that the administration still plans to close the detention center. More»

(AP) - Attorney General Eric Holder says the Pakistani Taliban was "intimately involved" and "directed this plot" in the failed Times Square bombing. Speaking on Meet the Press and This Week today, Holder said the Taliban perhaps financed the plot carried out by Faisal Shahzad, a US citizen of Pakistani descent accused of spending five months in Pakistan before returning to the United States in February and preparing his attack. AG must personally approve all requests to keep programs veiled

(NEWSER) - The Obama administration will announce much more stringent rules on state secrets today, two Justice Department officials tell the Washington Post, in what amounts to a major shift from Bush-era practice. To keep a program secret, an organization—including intelligence agencies and the military—will have to convince the attorney general and DoJ lawyers that exposure would significantly harm "national defense or foreign relations."
