When in trouble, male execs turn to makeup

(NEWSER) - The battered Bank of England has ordered its female workers into heels and at the very least lipstick, igniting a firestorm of controversy. The institution, facing one of the worst economic slumps in history, took time out to hold a seminar teaching its women how to look "feminine" without looking like prostitutes, reports the Independent. RNC defends $150k clothes, makeup budget for Palins

(NEWSER) - Sarah Palin apparently isn't kidding when she stresses the importance of lipstick to a hockey mom: the RNC spent $5000 on hair and makeup en route to racking up a $150,000 bill for clothing and accessories for Palin and her family since John McCain picked her as his runningmate. The $75,000 dropped at Neiman Marcus, among other spending sprees, have raised legal issues, but the RNC defends its expenditures, Politico reports. More»

Brooklyn Prep stocking up on 500 freebies

(NEWSER) - Ingredients for a memorable prom: a drop-dead dress, special corsage, romantic dances, and ... condoms. The condoms will be courtesy of Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory High School, which will offer 500 of the party treats, free, at next month's dance. “As they leave the prom, they are welcome to it,” school principal Darryl Rascoe tells MSNBC . “We are not forcing it on anybody, but we want them to have that option.” No surprise, the move is not a hit with everyone. “We are concerned that the distribution of condoms on school campuses further normalizes teen sex,” said a spokesman for a national sexual abstinence program.
