The move follows a pilot program at eight schools last year in which 13% of 3,000 students tested positive for STDs, mostly chlamydia and gonorrhea. Figures raise concerns after positive trends

(NEWSER) - After declining in 1991-2005, the US teen birth rate climbed in 2006 and 2007, HealthDay News reports. Crunching numbers from 2002-07, the Centers for Disease Control found a number of trends had flatlined or worsened after a period of improvement.

• 2004 saw 745,000 pregnancies among females under 20, including 16,000 among girls 10 to 14 years old.
• One-third of adolescents had no birth-control education before age 18.

Doctors worry number of hidden cases could be much higher

Bertold Wiesner secretly made 20 donations a year for decades

(NEWSER) - The biologist Bertold Wiesner set up a fertility clinic for high IQ donors in London in the 1940s, helping women conceive 1,500 babies before he died in 1972. But what he did not tell those using his clinic was that he was the clinic's major donor, likely making some 20 donations a year. The clinic's records were destroyed by his wife years ago, but preliminary DNA testing of 18 people conceived at the clinic indicates up to 600 babies could have been fathered by Wiesner over the years, reports the Telegraph . But Nadya Suleman says she's doing the best she can

(NEWSER) - After 14 kids and major money troubles, "Octomom" Nadya Suleman is admitting that, yes, the fertility treatments that ended in octuplets were a mistake. "Was it a mistake to have IVF after having six children already?" she was asked on NBC Dateline. "Yes, absolutely," she answered. "Was I in my lucid state of mind? I don't know at that point." Suleman, who vowed never to go on welfare after her latest eight babies were born, is now getting $2,000 a month in food stamps , and posed nude recently to raise money for her family. "I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family, and I'm not ashamed at all," she told Anderson Cooper of the nudie shoot .
