The BP CEO is handing over operations in the Gulf of Mexico to managing director Bob Dudley and heading back to England, at least for a while, chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg tells Sky News . Hayward probably won’t be talking to the media as much anymore, either. “It is clear Tony has made remarks that have upset people,” said Svanberg, who has made headlines himself by saying the company cares about "the small people." BP to Delay Dividend to Appease Obama

Money will be put in escrow until full cost of Gulf cleanup is clear

(NEWSER) - BP plans to defer its dividend in an effort to get the Obama administration off of its back, sources tell the Times of London. The money, which is expected to total about $2.5 billion, will be placed in an escrow account until the full cost of the Gulf disaster is determined. The US wants the payment suspended or cut, but the company, which hasn’t cut its dividend in 18 years, is looking for a compromise. More»

(NEWSER) - Another blow to BP's coffers—and reputation: The oil company has been fined $25 million for two Alaska pipeline spills in 2006 . The civil fines will settle charges arising from both the spills and BP's non-compliance with court orders to properly maintain the pipelines, the New York Times reports. It's the largest per-barrel assessment ever imposed for a spill, and could be a sign that fines and penalties of more than $20 billion will be levied against the company when the investigation into its much larger Gulf of Mexico spill is completed. (NEWSER) - Tony Hayward's lips are flapping again, which usually doesn't bode well for Tony Hayward. In his first in-depth interview since his departure from the company's helm, BP's vilified ex-CEO is unrepentant about wanting his life back and going sailing as the Macondo well gushed, and generally feels like he "may have done better" during the disaster if he'd had an acting degree, "rather than a degree in geology," the Guardian reports.
