(NEWSER) - Ted Kennedy’s unreleased memoir, True Compass, is already creeping up the bestseller lists. Originally scheduled for 2010, it's been moved up to mid-September by publisher Hachette, which plans to ship 1.5 million copies to booksellers. Pre-orders have put True Compass at No. 9 on Amazon and No. 3 on Barnes and Noble, reports Politics Daily. A limited edition version is for sale on Hachette's website for a mere $1,000. More»

Barnes & Noble cuts order over publisher's deal with Amazon

(NEWSER) - Barnes and Noble says its stores will not stock Obama’s Challenge, a new book outlining a progressive economic agenda for the Democratic candidate, because the publisher cut an exclusive deal with Amazon.com, the Wall Street Journal reports. Amazon’s print-on-demand service will offer the title beginning Monday, while the official printing will be available everywhere Sept. 14. More»

(NEWSER) - Gibson Guitar has sued Guitar Hero retailers, saying the Activision video games infringe on a patent it holds for a virtual-reality concert. The federal suit seeks to stop Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Amazon, GameStop, and Toys "R" Us from selling the games, reports AP. But Activision is fighting back—earlier this month it sued to have Guitar Hero declared free of patent violation. More»

Chain sick of customers checking out products before buying them on Amazon

(NEWSER) - In a sign of rising tension between online stores and their bricks-and-mortar counterparts, Target says it is going to stop selling Amazon's Kindle products. The company, one of the biggest offline sellers of Amazon's e-readers and tablets, has become fed up with shoppers using its stores as a showroom for Amazon, checking out products there before buying them online, reports the New York Times . Amazon encourages the practice and ran a promotion last year offering shoppers 5% off any item scanned at a store. More»
