The bacterium that causes gonorrhea—the second most common STD in the US—is remarkably adaptable and has proven resistant to the primary drug used to treat gonorrhea in 20% of UK cases last year, the BBC reports. Facebook Kills 'Places'

But location will soon be front and center in all posts

(NEWSER) - Facebook published a 1,200-word blog post yesterday detailing its latest privacy changes , but one little tidbit is just getting attention today: Toward the end of the post, the social networking site announced it will be “phasing out” Facebook Places, its Foursquare-like check-in service that debuted to much hype last year. Prez becomes highest-profile user of social networking site

(NEWSER) - The White House has signed up on Foursquare, just in time for President Obama's bus tour of Midwestern states , reports Mashabl e. The White House says the president will be regularly checking in, "and now you’ll be able to discover 'tips' from the White House featuring the places President Obama has visited, what he did there, plus historical information, and more." First Drug-Resistant Strain of Gonorrhea Discovered

'Superbug' could spread globally within decades

(NEWSER) - A "superbug" strain of gonorrhea, the first ever to resist all currently recommended treatments, has been discovered in Japan. The strain, called H041, could quickly spread around the globe, scientists warn. While gonorrhea was once an easily treated STD, it has shown a "remarkable capacity" to develop drug resistance after doctors started using antibiotics to treat it in the 1940s, says the scientist who discovered the new strain.
