      Kenyan Prez Kibaki Declared Victor, Sworn In

      (Newser) - Kenya today declared President Mwai Kibaki the winner of Thursday's election, igniting riots in Nairobi as protesters accused the Kibaki government of election fraud and demanded a recount, reports the BBC. At least 10 people have been killed. Kibaki was sworn into a second 5-year term immediately after the announcement that he beat opposition leader Raila Odinga by just 230,000 votes. More »

      30 Dead In Pakistan Rioting

      (Newser) - Rioting across Pakistan has left more than 30 people dead as mourners of Benazir Bhutto set the country ablaze. The Times of London reports that the police have exchanged fire with Bhutto supporters, and  have been ordered to shoot on sight in Bhutto's stronghold of Karachi. As  banks, shops, trains, and cars have been ransacked and burned, troops have brought Pakistan to a near standstill by blocking roads and suspending air and rail service. More »

      (Newser) - More than 70 policemen were injured last night, five of them critically, as riots spread throughout the suburbs north of Paris. Teenagers burned dozens of cars, threw Molotov cocktails and fired guns at cops, the Guardian reports, in escalating anger over the death of two teens after their motorcycle collided with a police car Sunday.
