      Bomb Threat Forces Back China-Bound Plane

      (AP) - A bomb threat emailed to Air China's Tokyo offices today forced a Shanghai-bound passenger jet to make an emergency return to Japan, reports AP. Four other flights were delayed. The email threatened to "bomb the aircraft" if fllghts were not suspended, according to a transport offical. "We suspect this is a threat related to the Olympics," said the official, who declined to say if any particular group was suspected. More »

      (Newser) - The Washington headquarters of the World Bank will be closed for business Friday as it investigates a bomb threat, Reuters reports. "The bank is working with law enforcement officials to determine the validity of the threat," said a statement from the bank. Few other details were released.       Dogs Search LaGuardia Plane After Bomb Threat

      (Newser) - Officials searched a plane on the tarmac of New York's LaGuardia Airport after a caller told the NYPD he had seen evidence of a bomb threat to American Airlines Flight 382 on the Internet. An aviation official said the plane, which had just landed from Chicago's O'Hare Airport, was taken to a remote area of the tarmac and searched with bomb-sniffing dogs.       (Newser) - Federal agents are looking into bomb threats phoned in to Wal-Marts and supermarkets across the country, the AP reports. An unidentified caller, believed to be in Portugal, demands that employees wire money overseas or he'll set off a bomb. A Maine supermarket was the target yesterday, bringing the total to at least 15 stores in 11 states. More »
