      Hispanics Hit 15% of US Population

      (Newser) - The US Hispanic population is booming, driven more by a high birth rate among those already in the country than immigration, the Census Bureau says. Since 2000, Latinos have jumped from 12.6% to more than 15% of the total population—swelling their numbers to 45.5 million from 35.7 million. "If you close the borders tomorrow, there is still going to be a large Hispanic increase," a demographer tells the Wall Street Journal. More »

      US Population Reaches 303.2M

      (Newser) - The US population will be 303.2 million on New Year's Day, the Census Bureau says, a 0.9% increase from last year. The nation is projected to add one person every 13 seconds in the new year—a birth every 8 seconds, a death every 11 seconds, and one migrant's arrival every 30 seconds, Reuters reports. More »

      Switching States Is On the Rise

      (Newser) - Americans are moving from state to state at the highest rate since the early '90s, reports  USA Today . The trend stems from immigrants spreading out from the traditional gateway states in search of jobs and lower living costs, as well as a larger number of mobile twenty-somethings. In a 2006 Census survey, 2.7% of Americans said they had moved from a different state in the previous year. More »
