      DC Madam Saw 'No Way Out': Suicide Note

      (Newser) - Unable to bear the prospect of prison time, the so-called DC Madam hanged herself, officials in Florida said today. Deborah Jeane Palfrey, whose body was found Thursday, left behind suicide notes in which she referred to "this 'modern day lynching'" and said she saw "no way out i.e. 'exit strategy' for me other than the one I have chosen," the Tampa Tribune reports.       'I've Just Snapped,' Writes Mall Shooter

      (Newser) - The Omaha mall gunman apologized to family and friends in a suicide note released today and says he "just snapped" before killing eight people and himself in a shopping mall, the AP reports. "I know everyone will remember me as some sort of monster but please understand that I just don't want to be a burden," wrote Robert Hawkins, 19. "I just want to take a few pieces of (expletive) with me." More »

      Hsu Sent Suicide Note Before Skipping Town

      (Newser) - Fugitive fundraiser Norman Hsu sent out a suicide note to acquaintances and charities he had supported before he hopped a train to Colorado last week, skipping out on a Bay Area court appearance. On the train, Hsu locked himself in a tiny cabin. When he  failed to come out the next day, Amtrak workers used a crowbar to pry open the door, the Wall Street Journal reports. They found a bare-chested, disoriented Hsu on the floor, surrounded by prescription pills. More »
