      An Iowa man left a note in his kitchen and voice mail messages for friends and ex-colleagues apologizing before killing his wife and four young children, the Chicago Tribune reports. Steven Sueppel then killed himself in a fiery highway crash. The former bank executive was facing trial on embezzlement charges, and had admitted using half of the cash for cocaine.       LA Gang Killings Down 27% Since '06

      Los Angeles gang killings dropped 27% from the 2006 high of nearly 300, reports the Los Angeles Times . The city reported 216 gang-related killings in 2007, which still accounted for more than half of all homicides in Los Angeles. Authorities credited the reduction to a program that used police, federal agents, probation officers and prosecutors to target the 11 most dangerous gangs.       Murder charges filed yesterday in the Christmas Eve slaying of six family members in a house in Carnation, Wash., added chilling details to the account of the deaths, and made the perpetrators liable for the death penalty, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
