      (Newser) - A ferry taking passengers home from a nighttime party capsized yesterday in Brazil, killing at least 15 people, AP reports. Dozens more were missing in the Solimoes River, one of the Amazon's largest tributaries. Most of those killed were women. Some passengers swam to shore and others were picked up by nearby boats. The ferry, which was carrying at least 80 people, was grounded earlier this year after failing an inspection. More »

      (Newser) - A jailhouse confession could doom two suspects in the murder of four people in the Joe Cool fishing boat case, the AP reports. A fellow inmate says suspect Guillermo Zarabozo came clean about the September killings, claiming that accomplice Kirby Archer shot the victims and that Zarabozo dumped the bodies overboard. The killings came after the boat's captain refused to take the pair to Cuba, the inmate said. More »

      (Newser) - Police arrested John Darwin, the canoeist who reappeared in London after being presumed dead for 5 years, early this morning on evidence that he and his wife faked his death to defraud their life insurance agency. The mysteriously tanned and fit Darwin had claimed to have no idea where he'd been, but photos of him and his wife in Panama surfaced on the Internet, and his wife recently sold their home and moved to Panama. John Darwin, 57 and able to remember only his name, walked into a police station saying: "I think I am a missing person."
