      Murdoch 'More Pessimistic' About Economy

      The last month has made media boss Rupert Murdoch "a lot more pessimistic" about the outlook for the US economy, Reuters reports. Ad revenue is below expectations at his TV stations and newspapers and he expects "a temporary downturn for a year or so" at Dow Jones, the News Corp. boss told a media conference yesterday. It's the strongest public statement  yet among top media leaders concerning fears about a pending advertising recession. More »

      News Corp Gets That New-Time Religion

      Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has inked an eight-figure deal to buy Beliefnet, the US' most popular religion website, as a platform to promote the company's religious books and programming, the Wall Street Journal reports. Details of the transaction weren't released, but the site will become a part of News Corp's film and television division, Fox Entertainment Group, rather than the interactive media division. More »

      Media, Tech Firms Team Up on Copyright

      In an unusual truce, eight media and Internet companies are banding together to combat the explosion of copyrighted material posted on the web, the Wall Street Journal reports. The group, led by Disney and Microsoft, has framed a set of guidelines; copyright holders in the group agree not to pursue Internet companies for infringement if they're followed.
