(Newser) - The Dalai Lama underwent gall stone surgery today in India after he was rushed to a hospital again suffering from abdominal pain, reports the Times of London. The 73-year-old spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists spent four days in a hospital with similar pains in August. The operation went off "without a hitch," said a spokesman. The Dalia Lama's recent health troubles have raised concerns about a successor. More »

(Newser) - The Olympic torch was greeted with furious protests as it arrived in Delhi today, and 15,000 security forces have locked down the heart of the city ahead of the relay, Reuters reports. Members of India's large community of Tibetan exiles have vowed massive protests to highlight China's human rights abuses. Dozens were arrested outside the hotel where the torch is being kept. (Newser) - Security protecting the Olympic torch will face its toughest test yet as thousands of Tibetan protesters converge on New Delhi for the Indian leg of the relay tomorrow. (Newser) - Ten-year-olds were found stitching Gap apparel in a filthy New Delhi sweatshop, some without pay, in an investigation by the Guardian . The kids interviewed by the paper reported long hours of unpaid work, threats and beatings. Serial numbers on the beaded blouses they were working on were ID'd by the Gap, which pulled the items from shelves and launched a probe, the Guardian reports. More »
