      Amazon's New Video Service Part Netflix, Part YouTube

      Amazon entered the streaming video tangle today with Amazon Video on Demand, a service that resembles Netflix and Hulu far more than the company’s Unbox service, Ars Technica notes. While Unbox functioned on a principle similar to the iTunes Store, Amazon Video will stream movies and TV shows directly to customers' computers (and, later, TVs), cutting long download times.       NBC's Zucker Snaps at Apple

      NBC chief Jeff Zucker has launched an extraordinary attack on Apple, accusing the digital download service iTunes of destroying revenue in the music industry, reports Apple Insider.com.  "Apple has destroyed the music business—in terms of pricing—and if we don’t take control, they’ll do the same thing on the video side," Zucker said at Syracuse's Newhouse School yesterday.       Online Video Site Hulu Launches

      The beta version of Hulu, a new online video venture between NBC and News Corp., launches this week. Challenging YouTube, the service allows users to embed and share existing video, but won’t support user-generated content. Instead, Hulu will focus on distributing ad-supported versions of movies and 90 NBC and Fox TV shows through deals with AOL, Comcast, MSN, MySpace, and Yahoo. More »
