No. 1 seed Tigers win battle of defenses, face Michigan State next

(Newser) - Memphis eked past Mississippi State 77-74 today in what had been expected, and turned out to be, a rough and tumble game. Leading the bumping bodies was the Tigers' Joey Dorsey who had 13 points, 12 rebounds, six blocked shots and altered several others with solid defense, reports AP. Memphis stars Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 17 points apiece. More »

No. 2 seed Tennessee Tops Butler in OT

for second straight year

(Newser) - Butler answered all but one of Tennessee's runs in their second round NCAA tournament matchup today. Unfortunately for the Horizon League champs (30-4), they couldn't match the Vols in overtime, and fell 76-71. Mississippi State Bullies Oregon in Final Minutes

Bulldogs overcome 13-point second-half deficit to advance

(Newser) - It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win nonetheless for Mississippi State. Trailing Oregon for most of the game, the Bulldogs turned on the heat at just the right time, beating the Ducks 76-69  in their NCAA tournament first round game tonight, reports the AP. Charles Rhodes scored a career-high 34 points for Mississippi State, which advanced to meet top-seeded Memphis in the second round on Sunday. More »

Another 13 seed pulls off the upset

(Newser) - Vanderbilt, a Southeastern Conference power that was tournament-tested, vowed not to overlook its first-round opponent, Siena. Surprise storm rips through city; no deaths reported

(Newser) - Atlanta cleaned up today after a tornado with 130mph winds ripped through the city last night, CNN reports. About 30 people were injured, though none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening. Thousands were without power today, and about 20 homes were damaged or destroyed in the historic Cabbagetown district near downtown. The city braced for a new round of powerful storms today. More »

(Newser) - What was a one-point game at halftime for Tennessee quickly turned into a blowout in the second half, as the Volunteers outscored South Carolina by 32 after the break for an 89-56 victory, reports The Tennessean . (Newser) - A run of 23 consecutive points and a balanced scoring attack propelled defending national champion Florida (18-3) to an 86-64 win over No. 14 Vanderbilt. Florida led 34-6 after 12 minutes and the Commodores could not recover. Their star scorer, Shan Foster, was held to only seven points, 13 below his season average.
