North Carolina junior sweeps MVP awards; Parker takes women's honor

(Newser) - He already earned an armful, but Tyler Hansbrough took one last bit of brass Friday night. The North Carolina junior won the John R. Wooden Award as college basketball's top player, giving him essentially a sweep of the season's individual honors, including The Associated Press college basketball player of the year award. (Newser) - North Carolina averaged 110 points in its first two games of the NCAA tournament but was held to a mere 68 tonight against Washington State. Didn't matter. The Tar Heels still managed to dominate and come away with a 68-47 win to advance to the Final Eight. The 21-point spread was the smallest margin of victory for UNC so far this tournament and was produced largely without the contributions of star Tyler Hansbrough early in the game. More »

(Newser) - North Carolina ran all over play-in team Mount St. Mary’s last night, running up an NBA-level 113-74 margin in only 40 college minutes. The Tar Heels had 14 players score during the game, giving the Mountaineers little chance against the nation’s  No. 1-ranked team.
