      Heckler Halts Gay Bishop's London Sermon

      (Newser) - He was uninvited to the Anglican Church's big, once-a-decade Lambeth Conference next week, but New Hampshire’s gay Episcopal bishop decided cheerfully to go anyway, to be a “constant and friendly reminder” of gays in the sect. Not so cheerful was the heckler who interrupted his sermon in London last night, calling the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson a heretic and blaming him for the church’s division over homosexuality, the Independent reports. More »

      California Episcopals Split Over Gay Rights

      (Newser) - A California diocese split with the Episcopal Church today over its defense of gay and women's rights, Reuters reports. The Diocese of San Joaquin, home to 47 churches and 8,800 congregants around Fresno, voted for the break by a vote of 173-22 among delegates. “This is the first time that a diocese has finally said 'enough' to the liberal theology of the Episcopal Church,” said one bishop.       (Newser) - Chicago’s Episcopal Diocese today passed up lesbian Tracey Lind for its bishop post, instead electing popular Midwest-native Jeffrey Lee. But Lee is a firm supporter of gay inclusion, much to conservatives’ chagrin. “I believe God is calling us to full inclusion of gays and lesbians in ministry of this church,” Lee said. “The church has to catch up with God's vision.” More »
