      An exhaustive, two-state manhunt for an ex-convict suspected in eight grisly slayings ended with the man quietly arrested last night outside a bar known as a police hangout. Police knew from a number of witness reports that Nicholas T. Sheley, 28, was in the area, said the police chief in the St. Louis suburb of Festus, Mo. "He was desperate and he gave up without a fight. He's had a rough two days."   More »

      A French carpenter dubbed the "Ogre of the Ardennes" is on trial in France, accused of tracking down, raping and murdering seven virgins with the help of his wife in one of the nation's worst murder sprees in decades.       A British court yesterday found a former forklift driver guilty of the murders of five young women. The string of prostitute murders in Ipswich made the man dubbed the "Suffolk Strangler" one of Britain's most notorious serial killers.       A murdered 19-year-old Reno woman is believed to be the third victim of a serial rapist preying on women near the local campus of the University of Nevada, reports the Reno Gazette .
