The Red Wings' downward spiral almost looked as though it had reversed itself last night, when the team managed three unanswered third-period goals to take the lead over the Oilers. But Edmonton's tying goal with 29 seconds left, followed by a scoreless overtime period, put the advantage squarely with the Oilers, who won 4-3, Detroit News reports.

Miikka Kiprusoff had his first shutout of the season for the Calgary Flames last night and it didn't come easy. Kiprusoff had 38 saves, including 13 in the third period, to stonewall the Detroit Red Wings 1-0, reports the AP. It was the first shutout in 64 starts for Kiprusoff, dating back to March.

Detroit shook off the loss of all-world defenseman and captain Nicklas Lidstrom to win easily at Colorado, 4-0. Lidstrom, the team's leader in assists and minutes played, was injured on a big hit that required him to be helped off the ice, writes the Detroit News . The Red Wings have now lost six straight ,while the Stars improve to 9-2 in their last 10 games, reports the Associated Press. Marty Turco blocked two shots in the final minute of the game, safeguarding the Stars’ lead and earning himself his 32nd career shutout.

The Columbus Blue Jackets made sure the Detroit Red Wings' rare fifth straight loss was painful last night. Fredrik Modin scored two goals and Rick Nash had a goal and two assists, as the Jackets won 5-1, reports the AP. Chris Osgood, starting his second straight game for the injured Dominik Hasek, was pulled after stopping only nine of 13 shots.
