      Missing Soldier Found Alive

      (Newser) - The Fort Bliss soldier reported missing and endangered Friday has been found alive in Nevada, reports the AP, and tells family that her estranged husband abducted her from her El Paso apartment. Jeneesa Lewis, whose apartment yielded evidence of a struggle, reported being beaten and stabbed twice, and sounded "tired, scared, and weak," her sister says. Police have charged her husband, Clinton Lewis, with aggravated kidnapping. More »

Two days before she disappeared, Jeneesa Lewis texted her sister "Yeah, he's gone. Had police go with me yesterday, it's all clear."       (Newser) - North Carolina police are searching for a female soldier who disappeared yesterday, her apartment blackened by a fire police are calling an arson, the Fayetteville Observer reports. Holley Lynn Wimunc, 24, was in divorce proceedings with her husband, against whom she'd recently gained a restraining order after a domestic-violence incident.       Bodies of 2 Missing GIs Found

      (Newser) - The families of two US soldiers missing in Iraq for over a year have been informed that their bodies have been found, reports AP. Alex Jimenez, 25, and Byron Fouty, 19, were seized by insurgents in a May 2007 ambush. Four other soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division "Polar Bears" died in the attack.       Army Desertion Rate High and Getting Higher

      (Newser) - The Army desertion rate for 2007 is up 43% over last year and a whopping 80% since the 2003 Iraq invasion, figures out today show. The rate is the highest since 1980, the AP reports.       (Newser) - The US military has identified the body pulled from the Euphrates River yesterday as one of the three missing American soldiers.       (Newser) - The US military is offering a $200,000 reward for information regarding the whereabouts of three soldiers who were kidnapped following an ambush Saturday. Helicopters dropped thousands of leaflets over the southern region of Iraq where the attacks took place, beseeching Iraqis to call a hotline with information.
