      US Paralympians Sue for Equal Treatment

      (Newser) - When the Paralympics opened today in Beijing, American Tony Iniguez proudly wore his uniform—but he’s also suing the US Olympic Program that provided it. Iniguez, like many of his teammates, believes paralympians deserve the same benefits as their able-bodied counterparts. His suit, filed with two retired wheelchair racers, is headed for the Supreme Court after a frustrated lower court judge ruled for USOP, the New York Times reports. More »

      China Bristles at US' Olympic Food Snub

      (Newser) - China says it's a "pity" that US athletes won't be joining their international counterparts at dinner tables during the Olympics this summer over worries about the safety of food and water. American athletes will ship in their own meat and eat at their own training center, and China is none too happy about the snub, says the Washington Post.       Chicago's Olympic Bid Faltering, US Chairman Says

      (Newser) - Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics is falling behind its main foreign rivals, the chairman of the US Olympic Committee said today. The Chicago Tribune reports that Peter Ueberroth, who captained Los Angeles' 1984 Games, puts Chicago's effort fourth among cities vying for the 2016 Olympics, behind Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo.
